A lot of Big sei is coming up to the North Norwegians coast outside Tromsø just now in oktober / november - following the NVG Herring from Arctic waters. And the big Humpback whales and Orcas go crazy with all this fresh food ! This is a great adventure and M/V BigFisher  II will join them out there. BIG HALIBUT

NICE HALIBUT FROM HALIBUT KINGDOM- 

Picture from a nice fishing trip the first days of Juli 2015 together with angler Gunter Storr in Halibut Kingdom.

We landed four halibuts from 10 to 40 kg , but had several hard attacks that didn´t get hooked up.

Halibut Kingdom outside Tromsø is still one of the very best spots for catching big halibuts.

Fishing around Finnkroken for halibuts has also been a success this year. 3 days ago a 60 kg halibut was landed just beside the Finnkroken fish camp.

The weather has been very cold - night temperatures at around 6-8 degrees celsius, and very clear water. The small sei is coming into the fjords inside, and a lot of  mackerel is just outside the coast now.

You can feel the tension - more reports will follow.

TROUBLE WITH ADWARE ON THE BLOG

For a while I have been less active on my blog due to trouble with unauthorized popup adware that makes trouble to read the blog. The problem is reported to Google, and hopefully they will solve the task. As far as I can see there is a Romanian adress that you will be linked up to if you try to esc the adware.

Anyway I had many nice trips after salmon, halibut and cod the last weeks, and reports will follow.

Tromsoe Deep Sea Fishing Club

At Malangsgrunnen outside Tromsø. You can see Halibut Kingdom with Rebbenesøy and Sør Fugløy in the horizon behind.

 

Together with 8 keen anglers from the Tromsø Havfiskeklubb, we made a Fishing trip with Cato on his very nice power catamaran to Malangsgrunnen last weekend on the 11. and 12. of april 2015.

We entered the catamaran saturday evening at 11 o clock, and started fishin' at Malangsgrunnen early sunday morning.

 

Due to bad weather and heavy Winds,  the planned  clubtrip before eastern had to be cancelled. This day the weather was Perfect, and 8 very keen guys started to search for the big cod - in Norwegian called skrei.

 

On my own trip with the " Smallfisher" on the 21. of march - all the area at Malangsgrunnen was filled up with big skrei.

But unfortunately - today most of them had left the area.

 

Anyway - we had a wonderful trip, and was back in Tromsø harbour sunday evening.  The Catch was around 500 kg round skrei with sizes up to almost 1,5 meter length and just below 25 kilo. Personally I was very satisfied with the  trip.

 

For me this was great contrast to my basecamp in Thailand where I returned from after a Nice eastern holiday with my Family and some good friends only two days before. The best of two worlds you can say :-)))))

BIG SKREI AT MALANGSGRUNNEN

A good feeling to get out to Malangsgrunnen today after months with a lot of gail and rough conditions.

I went out with the Smallfisher - some big Waves - called "dønning " in norwegian - but fair enough for a Fishing trip.

The water was full of big skrei ( Arctic cod ) and big sei .

The echo sounder showed a lot of fish at 75 meter depth

In two hours I filled two 100 l. boxes with big skrei - size from 7 kg to 23 kg . Today I preferred to use my Okuma Makiara 50 lbs rod With the very strong Penn International 50 S  reel - a Perfect combination for big fishes !!

Great Adventures Ahead

To become a successful angler and sailor, you have to understand and follow some important guidelines  : innovation and cooperation !

It is good to start early to learn  - you need to " know the ropes " as you see the kids are doing :-)))

We Are getting closer to spring now up here in the arctic North - norway - and the Anglers Are ready for action.

I was looking through some of my photo-albums from the last years - and it is so many good memories from wonderful trips. It's hard to imagine that it can be more to experience out there, but I am pretty shure that there will be more great adventures to come !! :-)))

The last weeks the weather has been rough - heavy snow storms and gail conditions with wind strokes measured up to 60 m/s outside the coast.

And the big cods - the skrei - has still not found its way in great numbers to the norwegian coast. But after the storm the weather will calm down - and then the skrei will arrive.

The big halibuts are on deep waters now, but they are moving to more shallow waters now to find something to eat. And some bait fishes will work very good then.

Wonderful days are ahead !! Springtime in north norway is a great adventure for nature lovers - and other lovers.

Now the Big Cod - up to 40 kg - is approaching the North Norwegian coast . This is happening every Year from December till April, and the last years the breeding has moved more North along the coast. A wonderful fishing adventure is taking place just outside Tromsø, and BigFisher will be there as son as the weather improves. This weekend the weather forecast reports gail and really bad weather. But after a storm the weather will be calm :-))))

BIGFISHER READY FOR ACTION

New Year and New opportunities. The big cod - in Norwegian called " skrei " is coming up to the North Norwegian coastal waters just now. Just now the weather is bad with gail conditions and low temperatures, but as son as the weather improves the adventures in halibut kingdom will start.

The big halibuts are just now breeding in deep waters, and are not allowed to fish for before april. We will be prepared and ready with New rods for the big ones :-))))))  Until them we will Go for the big 40 kg + skrei  !!!!

Humpback whales in the city of Tromsø on the 21. of December 2014. This is the darkest day of the year- the sun angle is today at its lowest - minus 23,5 degrees , and the sun is below the horizon both day and night up here just now. The sun will return to Tromsø the 21. of January 2015.

Henrik Bolten - good memories

Today - One year ago - professional  fishing guide Henrik Bolten lost his life in a bad accident while cutting down a tree in Germany. My thoughts go to your mother and father and the rest of your family.
Together we spread his ashes to the Sea outside Finnkroken in june this summer.

I also think about our good friend Kingfisher and Nordic Sea Angling guide Burkhard Plichta who lost his life in oktober 2011 in a car accident outside Tromsø.

It's still hard to understand How life can be cruel, but the good memories of the times we had together   Will live forever.
Rest in peace my friends - you will always be with me on the "BigFisher" on future trips in Halibut Kingdom.

Just 5 minutes outside Kvaløyvaagen in Halibut Kingdom I had a spectacular meeting today with hundreds of Killer Whales hunting for herring.

But not only the Killer Whales were hunting - hundreds of enormous 30 ton Humpback whales where also hunting in the same area .

Tomorrow is a New day - and be sure - I'll be there on the " Big Fisher " !

It is still hard to Accept that you lost your life in the tragic accident last December, but you will never be forgotten.

I will try to take care of the great enthusiasm and skills about angling  that you Burkhard Plichta learned me - and both of you will still travel with me on the "BigFisher".

Last saturday I had a very successful expedition into the Halibut Kingdom , and I am sure that you enjoyed it !

The 1. November was a Perfect day for halibut Fishing in the Halibut Kingdom outside Kvaløyvaagen in Tromsø, Arctic Norway. The weather was Nice - +1 degree celsius and 3 - 4 m/s Wind from South east .

I started from the harbour very early in the morning because the daylight  at this time of the year at 70. degree north  are very short.

Just outside Kvaløyvaagen I saw a lot of seagulls hunting for Fish, and I also recognized many clear water spots between the small wind waves.

This is a good sign for whales or herring close to the surface,  because they leave traces of fish oil that calmes down the waves at the sea-surface.

I started fishing with a Big bob jig, and after only 1 minute I had a big 12 kg sei ( pollack) on the rubberfish. Then I had big cod, and so many big sei that I wanted to take. The sea was full of sei, cod and herring.

After some searching I saw the first blow from a humpback whale just about 1 km away. I went closer to have a look, and suddenly I could take part in a great fiesta of jumping and feeding  whales.

I stopped the engines, and went out With my camera just to watch the whales hunting for herring in the area.
It was an amasing show. I could see the big 15 meter whales cooperate to make bubble- curtains to make traps for the herrings . When the herrings were trapped  - 3 or more 15 meter whales came jumping  up from the water with their big mouths open and filled their gaps with herring.

Suddenly I realized that they had made a bubble curtain only 10 meters from the " BigFisher" - The diameter of the curtain was about 25 -30 meters, and a lot of herrings tried to Escape trough the air and jumped out of the water.
Just at that moment the whales attacked. One of the whales almost hit the "BigFisher", but managed to make a sharp turn so he went under the boat. He was not more than 7 meters away from me, and  I looked him into his eyes - and he was looking back  straight at me .
What a feeling !!!
When he dived under my boat he blew like a big aircompressor with compressed air just into my face - hard to believe what happened .

I managed to take some pictures of him ( or her ??) - take a look.

After spotting the whales for some hours I went to one of my best places for big halibuts.
After only 15 minutes of Fishing I had a really heavy attack on my cod baitfish.

I like to use my Penn International II 50 S reel on a 50 lbs Okuma Makaira rod with strong braided line - a solid combination that works very good for me when hunting for the big halibuts. This combination you can really rely on.



THE "THREE GENERATION HOUSE "

This was a very strong halibut with a lot of potent energy - It felt even stronger than the 110 kg halibut I landed on the same spot two years ago.
The big difference this time was that I was alone on the " BigFisher" today.
Its not so easy to handle a 100 kg halibut all alone , but I enjoyed the fight and the great Challenge this was.
I was well prepared if this should happen - my harpoon With 10 meter rope and a floater was made ready  and big hook With 10 meter strong rope was tied up - also  ready for action .

THE LIGHTHOUSE

It was a great fight - and the halibut was strong. Since I was alone I let it go down from the surface three times with a strong brake on the reel to tire him out  - but not so strong  that I could cut the braided line.

It took me about 30 minutes to land the big halibut . When it was lying quiet behind the boat, I could go down on the diving platform to hook it with the  hook.

Just when I had hooked it, it exploded again and almost pulled me overboard.

What a fight - what a day in Halibut Kingdom   !!!!

After I had managed to lift it from the water with my specially made halibut crane, I measured it to be 1, 81 meter - should be  above  80 kg.  My digital scale was unfortunately not working as it should due to  bad battery. But it was a great fight and a wonderful halibut !!

And a wonderful day at sea !!!
