JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS !

Visited my cabin at Finnkroken, Reinøya last weekend.
Nice winter conditions and special light. This should be one of the darkest days in the winter, but it was a beautiful day.
Just now I am looking forward to celebrate Christmas together with my family here in Tromsø. My wishlist is almost completed - on top I ask for peace on earth to all people, on the second place I wish that my wife Jorun will finish her Master degree with great success, and third that all my friends feel good and that we can meet and enjoy living also next year. On the 10th place I ask Santa to bring me a 100+ halibut next year. Look forward to next year and many nice fishing trips !!

COLD WEATHER !

It's nice, quiet and cold in Tromsø tonight.

Can't go to sleep when the weather is like this. The town of Tromsø shines like a pearl in the arctic night.

May be I fire up the "BigFisher" and go for the big fishes tomorrow morning ???

" FISHIN IS THE MISSION "

Lørdag 23.10.2010 - In the memory of Burkhard and together with his best friends - Gunter, Uwe, Henrik, Detlef og Antje I navigated the M/V "BigFisher" out to the Halibut Kongdom outside Kvaløyvågen og Ringvassøy. Just in the place Burkhard loved so much - we had a wonderful day og fishing together. Burkhard would have loved this trip together with his best friends, but in our hearts he followed us all the day.

Unfortunately Uwe lost the biggest fish of the day - a hallibutt measuring more than 150 cm. Gunter had a nice day with two HALIBUTS - one 143 cm and 43 kg. We had many other strikes, and I lost a nice halibut myself after a good drill.

IN MEMORY OF MY VERY GOOD FRIEND BURKHARD

Dear Burkhard

It is very painful and hard for me to believe that the tragic car accident took your life just outside the fishing camp of Hav and Fjell in Langsund outside Tromsø.

I first met you about five years ago when you came to Finnkroken as an angler. You made an agreement with my friend Per at Finnkroken Feriehytter to work for him as an assistant and fishingguide at the camp. First we met at the pier and started to talk about fishing, and then after a while we started to go out fishing together with my boat the M/V "BigFisher".

I know this area well from years of exploration around, and I was happy to introduce you to all the wonderful places outside the islands closer to the open sea.

After a while we became very good friends, and I believe that we both looked forward to the weekends and new fishing adventures and good friendship.

You were very skilled and one of the most enthusiastic anglers I have met, and together we have explored the best places for catching halibuts in the areas around Reinøy, Ringvassøy, Rebbenesøy and Vannøy. I learned a lot from you about angling, and I am very thankful for the time we had together.

We have made plans for the future to even greater adventures, and I will fulfill these plans - be sure- and you will take part in all of this as a part of me and my mind and heart.

We had a lot of success with halibut-hunting, and I will never forget your words
" Fishin' is the mission" that you always used to say many times during our trips.

I am very thankful for introducing me to so many of your friends, and time by time I have become good friends with many of them.

I know this summer season has been very special for you, and you had great success with your work as a fishing guide for Nordic Sea Angling at Hav og Fjell in Langsund.

This made some of your best dreams come true, and it is good for me to know that you was feeling good and died as a lucky man.

You loved your profession and your great enthusiasm was present all the time - both at work and in privat.

Our last trip together will be next week outside Finnkroken, and for you this will be the last and foreverlasting journey.

Together with your family from Germany and some good friends we will spread your ashes into the sea on the places you loved so much.

On our trips we had good time for talking - we made a lot of jokes but also more serious talks about themes like life and death.

In spreading your ashes to the sea at the place you loved so much, we will fulfill your own wishes.

You wanted to settle and live your future life here in North Norway, and so it will be.


I will never forget you dear Burkhard.

A BEAUTIFUL LADY !

The first time I saw her, she was lying so nicely in the harbour of Tromsø. A lot of children was climbing around on her. Our next meeting was some days later in Grøtsund outside Finnkroken at Reinøya. The weather was nice, and I was on a sea-picnic together with my wife Jorun and our good friends Andre and Ingerborg onboard M/V "BigFisher". Unfortunately she didn't need to carry her white sails on this day because it was a sunny day with no wind. Sedov is her name and her home harbour is Murmansk in Northern Russia.
Anyway it was a great experience to see the worlds biggest working school sailing vessel coming through Grøtsundet on this sunny day in september 2010.

BEST OCTOBER EVER ???

Had a wonderful angling trip with M/V "BigFisher" in nice weather last Saturday from Finnkroken to Sollbaren outside Torsvåg and Nord Kvaløy. After good cod-fishing outside Karlsøy I picked up my friends Burkhard and Henrik outside Helgøy. They were fishing in the area together with Frank Brodrecht and Herbert Løchel from Kingfisher with the Arronet from Nordic-Sea-Angling. Unfortunately Frank and Herbert had to return with the Arronet due to a close timeshedule, but I look forward to invite both guys to a halibut hunting trip next year.

We enjoyed good fishing - 4 halibuts from 80 to 110 cm and big cods is a nice experience. But the most exciting this time was the nice weather, the beautiful lights and the sunset. Thanks to the creator of all this !!

WONDERFUL HALIBUT HUNTING !!

M/V "BIGFISHER" is seaborn again after installing new gear and engine. Had a wonderful trip with good friends - Burkhard, Henrik, Gunter and Max from Finnkroken and Hav og Fjell yesterday. The trip went around Ringvassøy, Rebbenesøy, Hattøy and Sandøy and returned to harbour in Tromsø via Kvalsundet. Weather was excellent for this time of the year, and fishing was thrilling.

Best catch had Max, a 140 cm - his first halibut - !! on very shallow water.He had a nice fight with a strong halibut - a memory for lifetime I believe !! The fish was taken pictures of and then released back to its wonderful territory.

Henrik had the second largest - a 105 cm halibut- really nice fish !! Henrik also had a new PB - a nice cod at 18 kg.

After good fishing and watching the sunset in the open sea we returned back home late in the evening. Look forward to many nice halibut-hunting trips in september, october and november - in my opinion the most exciting and best part of the hunting season.

NEW ENGINE AND GEAR MOUNTED !!!

M/V "BIGFISHER" HAS BEEN OUT OF BUSINESS FOR MORE THAN FOUR WEEKS NOW - THATS A DISASTER NOW IN THE SUMMERSEASON.

LOOK FORWARD TO TEST THE NEW GEAR AND ENGINE - AND TO EXCITING HALIBUTHUNTING IN SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER. SEPTEMBER USE TO BE ONE GOOD MONTH FOR HALIBUTFISHING, AND HOPEFULLY I WILL HAVE MANY NICE TRIPS TOGETHER WITH GOOD FRIENDS.
IN SEPTEMBER THE REALLY BIG HALIBUTS COME UPON SHALLOW WATER, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GO OUT THERE LOOKING FOR THEM.

DURING M/V "BIGFISHER"'s SUMMER HOLIDAY I HAVE BEEN OUT FOR MANY NICE FISHING TRIPS WITH FRIENDS, AND I THANK YOU FOR THIS.

Maintenance on M/V "BigFisher"

Had to pull her out of water friday 25.th for cleaning and maintenance on one of the Twin Disc gears. On one of my last trips I hit something drifting under the surface -probably a heavy piece of wood - and this caused a problem with the gear.

Hopefully she will be back in water and ready for new expeditions in two weeks - depends on the spareparts I need.

TROMSØ DEEP SEA ANGLING CLUB

STORTORSK UTENFOR VANNØYA

Had a nice trip with M/V "BIGFISHER" today outside Vannøy together with my friend Burkhard. A lot of nice weather and bad weather, sunshine, snow, rain, flat water and gail from north during the same day. I still feel a little dizzy and the floor at home is still moving. The point around Fakken can be VERY dangerous for small vessels when wind and current goes in different direction.
Had very nice fishing with BIG cods, , kveite, steinbit and sei.

The biggest cods we released and hopefully it will become mother to many new cod-babies.

The eccosounder picture show that the area was full of small fishes - tobis - and the big cods and also kveite are having a great party. Burkhard and I were lucky to join the party !!

DEEP SEA ANGLING CLUB OF TROMSOE - NICE TRIP OUTSIDE KVALØY

IN AN EXCELLENT WEATHER - SUN WAS SHINING AND ZERO WIND - I HAD A REALLY NICE TRIP TODAY TOGETHER WITH 4 OTHER ANGLERS FROM TROMSØ DEEP SEA ANGLING CLUB OUTSIDE KVALØY. THE SWEDISH ANGLER MARCUS HAD BEST CATCHES - NICE TORSK AND SEI. LOOK FORWARD TO THE HALIBUT CLUB TRIP THE 12. OF JUNE 2010.

The midnight sun is back outside the coast - this weekend we had a wonderful weather on an angling trip.

PÅ TUR MED BEITOSTØLEN HAVFISKEKLUBB - 2 KVEITER

Dro fra Vannøya med M/V "BigFisher" sammen med 5 mann fra Beitostølen Havfiskeklubb !! I noe ruskete vær gikk turen via grunnene utenfor Veggefjorden ut til Grøtøysundet. Hadde alle typer vær - vinter, vårvær , sommer og full snøstorm på en og samme tur. Fin naturopplevelse - så sola gå ned ute i havet - to kveiter 100 cm og 90 cm - artig tur og fint gjeng.

M/V BIGFISHER had 4 Halibuts and a double

Nice catch outside Ringvassøy. Michael, Burkhard, Arne-Morten and Morten had a nice experience. Biggest halibut 13o cm and Michael had PB and landed 3 beauties. Cant sleep after this!!!

BAD WEATHER - HALIBUT CATCH OUTSIDE RINGVASSØY

The 1. of May my friend Burkhard and I  had a wonderful angling trip  onboard M/V "BIGFISHER" outside Ringvassøy. Burkhard  landed a Halibut 148 cm long - wonderful fish !!! We explored a new place and had sevedral contacts with halibuts during the night.

The weather was not smiling to us - rain and snow and temperatures close to O' Celsius. Unfortunately the fish was not possible to release - after I prepared it I let good friends at Finnkroken keep the meat. Hopefully it will bring many good meals to my friends.

Inside the stomac of the female fish I found 2 cods - one of the 60 cm.!! long. Really a  hungry hunter. I also found a nice Kinetic jighead with double treble-hooks and a blue 30 cm. long rubberfish !

The Halibut-season onboard M/V " BIGFISHER" has started !!!!!!
